Law enforcement expert tells parents to be involved
“But mom, it’s no big deal.”
That’s often the response kids give parents or teachers when confronted about sexting – a term coined to describe sending sexually explicit text or picture messages through cell phones.
Richard Love, a retired Fort Lauderdale police officer and consultant with the FBI, talked about sexting to a room full of professionals Tuesday during the National Children’s Advocacy Center’s Symposium on Child Abuse.
Kids think it’s no big deal, Love said, but it is a big deal, and they need to understand the seriousness of the situation.
“It falls under child pornography laws,” Love said. “Our laws have not kept up with technology.”
